Environmental eDNA Collection

In April 2026, as part of an R&D project for Equinor, Bio Bureau and TideWise conducted a groundbreaking scientific expedition in the Santos Basin to monitor deep-sea biodiversity. The mission marked the first Brazilian operation to integrate the autonomous vessel USV Tupan with the advanced environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling technology of the US institute MBARI. Navigating completely autonomously more than 280 km from the coast, the vessel eliminated operational risks and reduced its carbon footprint by collecting high-fidelity samples without a crew on board. The project also marked the global debut of the FIDO device and the use of the ESP 3G laboratory robot, which automated the collection and preservation of genetic material in situ, generating a highly accurate marine biodiversity inventory.
